The Gunnery
Evan Roberts has been working in media broadcasting since age of eight. At fifteen he was producing radio drama at NZBC and acting on TV. He had a career in radio broadcasting for eight years which encompassed engineering, commercial production, on air operations and recording live and studio music. He has engineered, performed and produced on music works for EMI, Universal, BMG and Cafe Del Mar.
Evan coaches voice artists for work in film, TV and advertising and is himself a professional media broadcasting voice over. He has also won awards for audio in advertising, Bronze and Silver Axis, Cannes Gold and Silver Lions, New York Festival and Bronze LIA. He is also working in the field of computer science to create new kinds of audio equipment to augment The Gunnery’s work including new kinds of granular synthesis sound design tools and alternatives to chromatic music design.
Managing Director, Yellowbox Sound Studio
Rennie Gomes is the backbone of Yellow Box in the metaphorical sense. He wears several professional hats as composer, sound designer, Film Mixer and Managing Director.
In late 2009 Rennie spearheaded Yellow Box Studios’ most adventurous project to date. Together with business partner Ricky
Ho, they built Singapore’s only Dolby Certified Film Mixing facility and a Film Scoring stage to cater for their increasing regional film clientele.
His award winning advertising credits include Bronze in The Singapore Creative Circle Awards 2007 for his composition “Missing”. Also a Finalist for Best Music in a TV campaign in the prestigious D&AD 2001. In 2007 a Music video which he produced with Royston Tan received a D&AD nomination – a first in the region.
Rennie was also awarded Best Sound Design in the 2002 New York Festival for JVC ‘Sound’, a commercial produced by The Shooting Gallery for local powerhouse, Ad Planet, featured an unusually quiet style of sound design.
As a sound designer and film mixer, he is also much sought after for his inventive, unorthodox approach to cinema audio.
Rennie has worked with Emmy Award winner Robert Chappel, Asia’s film stalwart Eric Khoo and awarded director Royston Tan. In September last year ‘Bait’ a 3D full feature for release worldwide was mixed at Yellow Box’s new facility. New soundtracks mixed to date at the Dub Stage include My Dog Dou Dou, Imperfect and Dead Mine.
303 Lowe Perth
Steve has been writing ads for 18 years. He began his career as a copywriter in South Africa in 1995 but is no stranger to our own shores. After seven years in Singapore, Steve recently moved to Australia where he now works with 303 Lowe.
Steve joins the radio jury with a collection of awards behind him including those from AdFest, Award, Cannes, Clios, D&AD, London Internationals, Spikes and One Show.
While Steve has a passion for all writing, his first love was and still is radio. He suspects this has something to do with his being raised on a healthy collection of Monty Python audio CDs.
Deputy General Manager
Branding & Strategic Marketing
City Developments Limited
Since he was first commended as Best Young Copywriter with a mere nine months of work, The Creative Circle Awards has been kind to Mark- winning the Golden Gong in 1995 and the only two Gold awards in the last CCA.
His 22 years in advertising, included tenures as the first creative director and Singaporean to become Chief Executive Officer of the legendary Batey Ads and judging stints at D&AD, New York Festivals and other regional and local awards.
In 2011, Mark traded in his Hawaiian shirts and sneakers as Creative Director of Young & Rubicam for a suit and brogues as Deputy General Manager – Branding & Strategic Marketing for City Developments Limited.
The crossover to the client-side is seen by some as the Final Frontier for a complete career in advertising, a case that ‘ex-poachers make the best game wardens’ or simply a mid-life anomaly.
The debate continues.
